Why Is It So Hard to Draw a Circle of a Circle?

Ever get tied in knots trying to select a circle area in Photoshop? The Circle Lasso never seems to line up. You can't tell where to start, especially with nonperfect ellipses!

Draw two guidelines and you'll be done in seconds!

1. Here's a Petri dish I needed to add some color to:

2. Grab a vertical guideline from the left ruler and drag it to the outer edge of the left of the ellipse you wish to capture.

3. Grab a horizontal guideline from the top ruler and drag it to the outer edge of the top of the ellipse.

4. If you haven't already selected the Circle Lasso, do so (It's underneath the Square Lasso in the Toolbox).

5. Click the cursor at the intersection of the two guidelines. Drag to the lower right edge of the ellipse you want. Tah-Dah!
6. Fill, stroke, select, delete, mask--whatever you need to do!
